In April this year, there was a race in Australia called the Stawell Gift.

It is one of the oldest races in Australia where runners compete for a cash prize. One of the most fascinating things about it is that runners start from different points. Pro runners start from the back, while the non-pros are given a head start.

At this year’s race, American Olympic running sensation Sha’Carri Richardson started all the way from the back. She was behind by ten meters in a race that was just 120 meters long.

The race started and remarkably, she chased down every competitor and won it.

I don’t think there is a better way to depict the picture of life than this race. The hard pill to swallow is this: Life isn’t fair. We are all running, but we all started at different points.

We may all be coming from families, but some start in a family of strife and violence with no emotional support, while others start in a home with loving parents who give them all the emotional backing they need.

We may all be entrepreneurs, but some start with a bank loan for capital at an interest rate of over 15%, while others start with a family member who gives them all the credit they need with no interest or pressure to pay it back.

We may all be building families, but some start with nothing and are building from scratch, while others start with an inheritance that is more than sufficient to get them going.

We are all running, but we all started at different points.

There is an option of spending all your time staring at the starting line, protesting why the track is uneven.

But there is also an option of running. Running and giving it everything you’ve got.

Running while trusting that God, who started you there, is able to give you the momentum you need to win your race. Running to create your own advantage.

The breakthrough can only happen when we choose to run.

Quote of the month

The fascinating thing about writing is this: the ability to connect your mind, soul, and body in one single moment. And it’s even more peculiar when you are holding an actual pen, moving it against paper, seeing the ink create—first a letter, then a word, then paragraphs—it’s simply uncanny. Writing is one of life’s greatest therapies.
