This little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine… x 4
I’m gonna let it shine, let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
This beautiful Sunday School rhyme gets its inspiration from the words of Matthew 5:16: Let your light shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven.
For many of us, we think “letting your light shine” only means preaching on pulpit or by the roadside. The reality, however, is much broader. That light can shine through the words we write, the care we show a friend, or the diligence we bring to our work. We all have a light in us, and it is up to us to make it shine in every corner of life so others can see it and acknowledge God’s power.
The question then becomes: how do we turn on the switch for this light? How can we activate it? The answer is actually quite simple: spending time with God. When one talks to God regularly, their train of thought becomes streamlined with God’s word, and this naturally begins to manifest in the fruits produced in their lives.
The next question then becomes: how can one spend time with God in a digital age that is so loud and fast paced? Again, the answer here is simple. The first step is deciding in your heart that you want to do this. From that point, you can decide to start with just 5 honest minutes every day.
You may have tried this before and failed. Maybe you set a New Year’s Resolution, bought a new Bible, a highlighter, and page markers, but were not quite successful. It is a special kind of disappointing when you fail at a matter like this, and the feeling of condemnation can be heavy. Take heart if you find yourself in this situation—many of us have been there too. There is hope for you.
This is a personal story because, for this piece, one of our team members here at Lapatutu found themselves in that exact situation. Then, a friend gifted them the Muno Journey Daily Prayer Box, containing a journal, Bible verse flashcards, a gratitude jar, and a message of encouragement from Ruth Kyamuwendo, the founder.

At that point, exams were getting closer, and setting aside this time was becoming a lot harder. Returning to the room exhausted often meant being unwilling to spend 30 minutes writing. A day came, however, when they simply started to write.
Everything that had been too bottled up to put down was poured onto the page, and somehow, sleepiness vanished. Looking at the clock, it had been only 5 minutes. 5 minutes! It felt as though time had slowed down just for that moment. From that time on, the journey of spending time with God became easier—it was as if they had found someone to walk the journey with them.
The Muno Journey Bible Journal can also be a beginning for you.
In today’s world, we are always rushing from one thing to the next. Before we know it, our quiet moments can only be reserved for work, movies, or sleep. Some of us may not have the ability to lock out distractions on our own to make intentional time for God—to pray, write, and meditate on scripture.
The Muno Journey Bible Journal is a practical tool that helps reduce the pressure of maintaining a devotional routine, giving you the space to shine your light, one page at a time. [Click here to get yours today] and start living the reality of that age-old song: this little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine.
Remember, it can start with 5 Honest Minutes.
